While a temporary General Assistance Medical Care (GAMC) program is being developed, it's important to know the facts concerning GAMC and abortion. According to current law, pregnant women on GAMC are supposed to be transferred to Medical Assistance, thus the GAMC program is not supposed to pay for abortions. However, the most recent statistics from the Minnesota Department of Human Services reveal that in 2007, there were 68 taxpayer funded abortions paid for by GAMC funds at a cost of more than $25,000.
