Student Day at the Capitol

Save the date: Student Day at the Capitol will be held on March 15

Student Day meets teen demand

Student Day at the Capitol is at the forefront of an incredible swell of pro-life convictions among young people.
Consider the following:

  • Teen pregnancy and abortion rates in Minnesota are near historic lows.
  • Polls reveal that 78 percent of teens believe abortion is “morally wrong.”
  • Pro-life student groups are becoming more and more popular at high schools and colleges across the state.

Young people have witnessed the destruction caused by abortion and have naturally developed a desire to protect women and unborn children.

The next Student Day at the Capitol will be held on March 15

Due to this overwhelming interest and energy in young people, MCCL offers a unique opportunity each year for students to become citizen lobbyists. Student Day at the Capitol enables students to learn about the pro-life movement and actually participate in the political process by meeting their legislators.

Students lobby abortion supporter Rep. Tim Mahoney.

All students, grades 7–12, are invited to participate in this exciting day at the State Capitol to celebrate life and to learn the importance of protecting life through the legislative process.

“All students in grades 7-12 who are interested in government and want to learn how to get involved in the pro-life movement should attend!” said Jennifer Kistler, MCCL programs coordinator.

Learn, meet with legislators

Student Day at the Capitol begins at the St. Paul Kelly Inn at 8:30 a.m., with information sessions on how a bill becomes a law, current pro-life issues and legislation, and presentations. MCCL’s team of lobbyists will provide students with insights into the legislative process and the history, alternatives and effects of abortion. Students also will learn about other pro-life issues and the importance of citizen lobbying.

In the afternoon, students have the opportunity to lobby legislators about current pro-life issues, tour the Capitol and watch the Minnesota Senate or House of Representatives in action. Young people also will learn how to bring the pro-life message back to their school or community and how they can stay involved in the pro-life movement. The day ends around 3:30 p.m.

“I wish MCCL’s Student Day had been available when I was in high school,” said MCCL Legislative Associate Andrea Rau. “The young people who attend really enjoy learning about government, life issues and how the whole bill process works.”

Young people are the future of the pro-life movement! MCCL Student Day at the Capitol provides them with a unique opportunity to voice their pro-life convictions with a hands-on experience in law and politics!
