Planned Parenthood means abortion

Did you know that Planned Parenthood:

  • increases the number of abortions.
While the number of abortions performed in the U.S. has dropped in recent years, the number of abortions performed at Planned Parenthood clinics in 2006 was the highest number ever recorded for the organization, according to the Planned Parenthood Federation of America (PPFA) 2006-2007 annual report. In 2005, Planned Parenthood clinics performed 264,593 abortions. However, in 2006 Planned Parenthood clinics performed nearly 290,000 abortions! Planned Parenthood not only performs abortions, it promotes them as a means of family planning.
  • exports abortion overseas.
Planned Parenthood, through their International Planned Parenthood Federation (IPPF), aggressively promotes the legalization and expansion of abortion “services” as a method of population control worldwide. Think about what "population control" means. For Planned Parenthood it includes their support for the forced abortion policy being carried out in China and targeting other countries like India, seeking to control their populations. Shouldn't that be the responsibility of India's families and elected government? Indeed, Planned Parenthood and its allies actually have blocked legislative proposals to substantially expand funding for overseas birth-control programs, simply because those proposals were coupled with restrictions on aid to abortion-promoting groups. Planned Parenthood lobbies at the United Nations and bullies foreign governments to allow abortions by falsely claiming that they are in violation of United Nations treaties and resolutions.
  • rarely helps with alternatives to abortion.
According to figures reported in Planned Parenthood’s 2006-2007 annual report, the agency saw 11,058 prenatal clients in 2006, compared to 289,750 abortion clients. The number of their clients receiving prenatal care is decreasing; in 2005 over 13,000 women received prenatal care compared with only just over 11,000 being served in 2006 (over 2,200 less!). In other words, there were more than 26 abortions for every client given prenatal care. Additionally, there was an astounding 120-to-1 ratio in the number of abortions versus adoption referrals made by Planned Parenthood in 2006. Planned Parenthood convinces vulnerable women that abortion is their only choice.
  • is pro-abortion, not pro-choice.
Planned Parenthood makes its living off of abortions and taxpayers. Planned Parenthood of Minnesota, North Dakota and South Dakota (PPMNS)is performing more and more abortions each year. Claiming a desire to reduce abortions, Planned Parenthood of Minnesota, North Dakota and South Dakota is Minnesota’s leading abortion provider. In Minnesota alone, Planned Parenthood increased its abortions from 2,452 in 2000 to 3,911 in 2007, an appalling 37 percent increase in seven years.  Whenever Planned Parenthood comes to town, abortions increase. Women seeking to exercise their choice should contact a Pregnancy Care Center instead.
  • is the leading opponent of protective legislation.
Whenever MCCL proposes a protective legislative initiative, Planned Parenthood howls in opposition. Planned Parenthood continues to oppose bills. Although claiming to be “pro-woman,” Planned Parenthood launched its most strident attacks against the MCCL-backed Woman’s Right to Know legislation. This informed consent law empowers women considering abortion with all the facts about the procedure and its alternatives before a woman makes her decision. Unbelievably, Planned Parenthood continues to defy public opinion and oppose the federal ban on brutal partial-birth abortions, instead they back the so called "Freedom of Choice Act" (FOCA) that would nullify all protective laws that exist today making abortion the only available choice for women, just a small step short of forced abortions.
  • does not follow existing laws.
Planned Parenthood largely ignores the Woman's Right to Know law, that requires that women seeking abortion be given informed consent information similar to that provided to patients considering other surgical procedures. Further they do not report instances of statutory rape and incest sending minor girls back into the circumstances that brought them to an abortionist in the first place. The Parental Notification Law in also circumvented by bringing minors to certain courts who routinely give permission for an abortion without telling the minor's parents.
  • uses your tax dollars to do their dirty work.
$4,350,000 in state and federal taxpayer dollars went to PPMNS in 2007 in the form of government grants, including those for “family planning.” $23,432,000 was PPMNS’s total revenue in 2007 from all sources, including patient fees and the sale of contraceptives. Therefore, nearly 20 percent of PPMNS’s total 2007 revenue was provided by taxpayer dollars. PPMNS ended 2007 with $26.1 million in total assets—six times the amount it received in taxpayer funds. In 2006, Planned Parenthood's annual report noted a $1,006,000 return on their investments yet they continue to request and receive ever increasing state, federal and local grants to carry out their grisly work. In the 1995 Doe v. Gomez decision, the Minnesota Supreme Court declared that women receiving medical assistance were entitled to abortions at taxpayer expense. PPMNS has received more than $1 million to perform over 4,500 taxpayer-funded abortions.
  • targets racial minorities.
These numbers are from 2006 because the 2007 birth numbers are not yet available. Note that African Americans comprise only 4.5% of the Minnesota population but they receive 32.2% of the abortions.  This is because Planned Parenthood sets up shop near minority populations and reaches out to "serve" those minorities.  Hispanics, though typically pro-life because of their Catholic background also have a very high rate of abortions in proportion to their presence in the Minnesota population.  Again, Planned Parenthood targets them and plays on their beliefs to convince them not to "shame" their families or to exacerbate their family's poverty with an unplanned pregnancy.  That is an easy sell if your customer is young, single, frightened and poor.  Particularly, when taxpayers pick up the tab for the abortion.

*Hispanics can be of any race and are counted within the appropriate racial group.
They are also listed separately as an important ethnic category.

Planned Parenthood's eugenic approach to "population control" should not surprise us. They refer to their founder, Margaret Sanger, as the Mother of Planned Parenthood. See what she says about the indigent and racial minorities in her own words.

What can you do?
Pro-lifers across Minnesota must inform the rest of the state on what Planned Parenthood really is. The truth about Planned Parenthood’s abortion activities must be exposed. Planned Parenthood is not a health care clinic—it is an abortion provider and promoter hiding behind an innocuous front. They are working to integrate abortion into health care not just in Minnesota, but also around the world. Write letters to the editor and tell your friends and family that Planned Parenthood is not good for the health of our nation’s women and children. Let’s keep Minnesota and our nation out of the abortion industry by keeping Planned Parenthood out of our government.
