Planned Parenthood's funding is outrageous!

Abortion is big business for the world's largest abortion promoter

The business of promoting abortion has never been more profitable. According to the International Planned Parenthood Federation’s Web site (IPPF) it took in more money than ever in 2007. Income from all sources was $120 million—a staggering 39 percent increase from 2002.

After giving out $61 million to its members and spending a lot on programs and fundraising, International Planned Parenthood ended 2007 with $111 million on hand. Not bad for a not-for-profit organization.

IPPF works through local Member Associations. In 2007 there were 152 Member Associations (MA) active in 180 countries.

  • 54.5% of MAs advocate for reduced restrictions and/or increased access to safe legal abortion
  • 85.5% of MAs provide abortion-related services
  • 435,294 abortion-related services were provided in 2007 through MAs

According to IPPF's annual report, "IPPF's main source of funding is government contributions which accounted for 71% of the total incoming resources. Unrestricted government grants showed an increase of 6% or $4.1 million. (U.S.) This was due to increased contributions from the Governments of Australia, Canada and Finland."  Why does International Planned Parenthood's radical abortion agenda continue to garner support of governments around the world?

Largest government contributors:

  • United Kingdom $14,927,000
  • Sweden $14,739,000
  • Japan $11,705,000

The US government did not contribute in 2007. However, International Planned Parenthood joined other abortion advocacy groups in calling upon the Obama administration to increase funding for international organizations that promote and provide "reproductive health care," a euphemism understood to include abortion on demand. How much money do they want? One billion dollars every year. Presumably International Planned Parenthood, which may be the largest of such organizations, would receive a large portion of the proposed funding.

Grants from multilaterals and other income sources  (24% ):

  • European Commission $3,940,000
  • Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation $3,809,000
  • The William and Flora Hewlett Foundation $2,550,000
  • David and Lucile Packard Foundation $1,092,000
  • United Nations Program on HIV/AIDS (UNAIDS) $1,675,000
  • United Nations Fund for Population Activities (UNFPA) $1,024,000

Pres. Barack Obama overturned the pro-life Mexico City Policy on Jan. 23, 2009. The policy first instituted by pro-life Pres. Ronald Reagan made organizations that promote abortion overseas ineligible for U.S. taxpayer funds. Obama’s reversal means that International Planned Parenthood can, and likely will, receive tens of millions of U.S. taxpayer dollars for its abortion advocacy work. That work includes pressuring foreign governments to legalize abortion on demand. With $111 million of cash on hand and more on the way, International Planned Parenthood has vast resources to accomplish its deadly agenda. Even if it says it needs more money.

Of IPPF's 5 "priority focus areas" here's how they spent their money.Note Planned Parenthood references to "reproductive health" include abortions and abortion-related services.

  • 45% Access (ensuring access to info and services to improve sexual and reproductive health w/particular focus on marginalized communities)
  • 20% Abortion (to advocate for the right to safe abortion services and provide them to the fullest extent permitted by law)
  • 15% Adolescents (providing youth friendly services to meet the needs and rights of young people)
  • 11% Advocacy (to strengthen recognition of the importance of sexual and reproductive health within the context of int'l development and to increase resources in support of sexual and reproductive health services)
  • 9% AIDS (increasing access to prevention, care, support and treatment globally, and to reduce barriers that make people vulnerable to infection)

Where the most $ was spent:Grants of more than $5,000 each went to 144 countries; and of the $53,345,198 in total grants, 25% went to the following top ten countries:

  1. India
  2. Pakistan
  3. Nepal
  4. Bangladesh
  5. Nigeria
  6. Tanzania
  7. Kenya
  8. Ghana
  9. Uganda
  10. Zambia

International Planned Parenthood is increasing its focus on Africa. They use the threat of losing United Nations Funding to frighten African leaders to accept abortion as a means of population control. Most African countries have laws heavily restricting abortion, but they rely significantly on U.N funding.

International Planned Parenthood Federation bank balance as of 12/31/07: $111,342,000
