Guttmacher Institute (PP's statistical arm) says 2012 is the second biggest year for passage of pro-life laws.
Time magazine says abortionists are losing the battle.
Assisted suicide looms as a tangible threat to Minnesotans. Our law that prohibits assisting suicide has been upheld in two recent court cases, but even so, efforts are underway to overturn that law.
A bill to legalize assisted suicide was introduced in the 2015 legislative session. Author Sen. Chris Eaton plans to promote her bill with meetings across the state this summer.
MCCL has always opposed legalized assisted suicide. The threats of coercion and abuse, suicide contagion, misdiagnoses, carelessness and trauma among survivors make the practice of assisted suicide too dangerous. People struggling with illness and disability need support and care, not help to kill themselves.
To further understand these dangers, see our assisted suicide web page, brochure and our contagion white paper.
Abortion numbers in Minnesota increased slightly last year after having fallen for seven consecutive years to their lowest level since 1974, according to the state’s 2014 Abortion Report. The Minnesota Department of Health report shows that 99% of abortions are done at five abortion facilities.

Planned Parenthood proved again to be Minnesota’s largest abortionist, increasing its abortions by another 14.2 percent last year, following increases of 8.6 percent in 2012 and 11.6 percent in 2013. State abortion totals declined 5.4 percent over the same three-year period. Planned Parenthood’s 2014 total of 4,990 abortions was its highest number ever, and a record market share of 49.3 percent of all abortions.
