Minnesota Citizens Concerned for Life:

Our Story. Our Impact. Our Vision.

Our Story

In 1968, a small group of Minnesotans came together to speak up for the right to life of unborn babies and other vulnerable human beings who were under threat. They founded Minnesota Citizens Concerned for Life (MCCL) with the mission of securing protection for innocent human life from conception until natural death through effective education, legislation, and political action.

MCCL's conviction is that human rights belong to all members of the human family, regardless of age, size, ability, health, or dependency. It's why we work to defend unborn children from abortion and to support their mothers. It’s why we fight to protect newborns who survive abortion or who have disabilities. It’s why we oppose euthanasia and assisted suicide, which endanger all of us and devalue the lives of those who are elderly or sick.

As Minnesota’s oldest and largest pro-life organization and the sole Minnesota affiliate of the National Right to Life Committee, MCCL now has local chapters all across the state and tens of thousands of members. Together, we’re changing hearts and minds, empowering pregnant women, advocating for protective laws, and saving lives.

Our Impact

MCCL’s multi-pronged pro-life work led to a 48 percent decline in abortions in Minnesota, representing hundreds of thousands of unborn lives saved.

Over the decades, MCCL’s educational programs and events have informed and motivated our fellow citizens and shaped public opinion. Our advocacy at the Capitol has led to the passage of numerous lifesaving and woman-empowering measures. Our political action committees have successfully turned out the vote for many pro-life candidates and helped produce abortion-reducing laws and policies in both Minnesota and Washington D.C.

MN Abortions decreasing from 1975-2015, due to MCCL efforts.

In 2024, when abortion advocates, with full control of the legislature, sought to enshrine unlimited abortion in the state Constitution, MCCL drew on our experience and expertise to fight back. We launched a 7-figure TV ad campaign, advanced strategic messaging in key districts, and much more—and stopped the constitutional amendment bill in its tracks.

Our Vision

In the battle for life in Minnesota, we now stand at a crossroads. In 2022, pro-abortion candidates won control of the state House, Senate, and governorship. They used that power to legalize abortion up to birth and repeal many of the pro-life measures MCCL had helped enact. The result of these extreme policies? Abortions increased 39 percent over 2022 and 2023, reversing a long-term pro-life trend.

To rebuild a pro-life Minnesota, we need to think big. To restore protection for the vulnerable, culture change is needed. That’s why MCCL started our Center for a Pro-Life Minnesota with the goal of expanding and improving pro-life outreach, especially to youth and Latinos. It’s why we’re growing our social media advocacy, utilizing the latest technologies, and revamping our chapter and church networks. It’s why we’re training pro-lifers across the state to effectively engage in conversations that touch the hearts and minds of those who aren’t yet pro-life.

We can change the culture. We can restore our laws. We can make a Minnesota where every unborn child is protected, where every pregnant mom is supported and loved, where human life is cherished at every stage and in every condition. Will you join us to help make it happen?

Help us ensure a pro-life Minnesota for generations to come.
