MCCL's annual Choose Life Drive—a movement of hope

In a world of rising costs, something as simple as a box of diapers can make an enormous difference for a mom in need. Material insecurity is one of the largest drivers of abortion. Forty-six percent of families with children aged three or under struggle to afford diapers, according to the National Diaper Bank Network. The average monthly cost to keep a baby in diapers is over $100 and rising. For some parents, this means trade-offs between essentials like food, gas, and diapers.

Pregnancy resource centers (PRCs) in Minnesota are stepping into the gap. At last count, there were 82 PRCs serving moms and babies in our state, outnumbering abortion facilities by an incredible 11 to 1. These centers live out the mission to “love them both” every day by providing practical support and hope to families. Many PRCs walk with women and their families for years after birth, some up to age five and beyond, and through multiple pregnancies.

MCCL has stood with Minnesota’s pregnancy resource centers for decades. The annual MCCL Choose Life Drive was created as a response to the horrific Doe v. Gomez ruling, which imposed taxpayer funding of abortion in Minnesota. The Drive lasts from the anniversary of that ruling, Dec. 15, until Jan. 22, the anniversary of Roe v. Wade and the day of the annual MCCL March for Life in St. Paul. These dates remind us of the fight for life, and the hope we can bring to it.

Last year, MCCL partnered with EveryLife, a pro-life diaper company, to expand our impact. Our goal was to provide one box of diapers and wipes to every PRC in the state. MCCL purchases diapers at wholesale prices, stretching every dollar to help more families in need. We also had an online registry for those who wanted to send more than diapers. Our expanded Choose Life Drive was such a hit that we exceeded our goal by 43 boxes. We also collected three strollers, five car seats, and four pack-n-plays, along with hundreds of dollars’ worth of other baby items. MCCL staff and volunteers made deliveries to all 82 PRCs, which then distributed the items to the families they serve.

Because of last year’s success, this year we are confidently doubling our goal! With your help, we can give two months’ worth of diapers and wipes to every pregnancy resource center in Minnesota.
