This dishonest group is a threat to human life in Minnesota

Every pro-lifer in Minnesota needs to know about a grave new threat to the lives of unborn children in our state—a libertarian-leaning group that calls itself Action4Liberty.

A wave of dead children lies in their wake.

Action4Liberty claims to be conservative, but it’s actually a political group whose goal is to take over the Republican Party of Minnesota and re-shape it to its libertarian vision. While there are libertarians who are pro-life, a strong strain within that movement is not.

Here are the facts—and why this group so threatens unborn children in Minnesota.

How Action4Liberty cost unborn lives:

Action4Liberty almost never criticizes Democrats. Virtually all of their attacks are against pro-life Republican legislators and members of Congress.

Their waves of such attacks in the 2022 elections weakened Republican candidates for State Senate, causing Republicans to lose control of that chamber by just one vote. That gave radical Democrats control of the State Senate, State House, and governorship—the trifecta that for two years passed laws that gravely damaged Minnesota families, our freedoms, and the unborn.

The 2023 law that allows abortion up to birth, passed by just one vote, happened because Action4Liberty attacked pro-life Republicans in the 2022 elections. The same is true of Minnesota's barbaric new law that allows denial of treatment to babies who survive abortions or who are born with disabilities, resulting in their deaths by neglect. It also passed by just one vote. Only Communist China has a policy so brutal toward newborns.

We lost many other pro-life laws that year, all by one vote. Those lost laws cost lives.

Two thousand more abortions occurred in Minnesota in 2023 than in 2022. Two thousand innocent children lost because we lost the Senate by one vote.

None of this would have happened had Action4Liberty not viciously attacked only Republican candidates in the 2022 elections. They are the Democrats’—and the abortionists’—best allies.

New Action4Liberty lie # 1:

To harm pro-life Republican officeholders, the group has claimed that Republicans are causing the state to fund abortions if they vote for budgets for health spending. It’s a lie.

The state Supreme Court, in the 1995 case of Doe v. Gomez, ordered the state to pay for abortions through Medicaid. Minnesota is still under that court order.

Well-known court cases in legal circles, such as Leandro v. North Carolina and Gannon v. State (Kansas), established that courts can force legislatures to fund “rights” the courts declare to be constitutionally guaranteed (as Minnesota’s court in Doe v. Gomez did with abortion), even when we don’t agree that they are “rights.” Those court cases showed that a state court may take money from other state sources to fund their favored “rights.”

So Medicaid abortions would be funded in Minnesota no matter what legislators did—even if they voted for no dollars for any health or human services.

The way to end state funding of abortion is not to defeat more pro-life Republicans; the way to do it is to elect pro-life governors, who will appoint originalist judges who will respect our state Constitution and eliminate forced abortion funding.

New Action4Liberty lie # 2:

State Representative Jim Nash, a leader on the Life issue with a 100% pro-life voting record for 11 years, stood on the House floor Monday, May 12, to argue for a bill that would reinstate funding to pro-life pregnancy resource centers that help unborn babies and their moms. Compare what he said in defense of those pro-life clinics that save lives (watch it here) to what Action4Liberty lied about what he said (watch it here).

As you’ll see, Action4Liberty didn’t show Rep. Nash’s entire quote. They included only a very small portion of it in order to create the false impression Nash was commenting favorably on Medicaid funding of abortion, when he was in fact commenting favorably about helping pro-life pregnancy resource centers.

But the kicker? Action4Liberty has declared they are against the bill that would give funding to pro-life pregnancy resource centers! That is by definition a pro-abortion position. In their news item that day, Action4Liberty complained that “Republicans advocated for more taxpayer spending for pregnancy resource centers, which is not the role of government ...”

We’ll go with our nation’s Founders, who wrote that protecting human life is a legitimate and necessary role of government. And we’ll go with the Founder who said “I cannot tell a lie.” MCCL and the unborn children whose lives we work to protect thank all pro-life legislators who fight for those values, despite the dishonest personal attacks on them for their beliefs.
