MCCL statement as COVID-19 deaths in Minnesota's long-term care centers top 1,000

ST. PAUL — Today Scott Fischbach, executive director of Minnesota Citizens Concerned for Life (MCCL), issued the following statement:

“Today the Minnesota Department of Health (MDH) confirmed that we have passed the 1,000 mark in the number of COVID-19 deaths of residents of long-term care centers (LTCs). With the addition of today’s numbers—22 more LTC deaths (of the 25 total)—1,015 people have now died in our long-term care facilities. This is a staggering loss of life.

“MCCL today again calls for a reversal of the MDH policy of placing COVID-19 positive patients back in LTCs and for new leadership to take control of the Department of Health.

“We also welcome the new effort by Congressman Steve Scalise (R-La.) to launch a congressional investigation into the deadly policy of sending infected COVID-19 patients into LTCs. This is a failed policy that needs to be investigated and reversed so that many will have their lives spared.”
